Meet Danielle Lewis: A Mission-Driven Innovator
Danielle’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. In 2023, she decided to switch careers and dive into iOS development—a bold move that highlights her passion for technology and personal growth. Since then, Danielle has achieved incredible milestones:
- Developed and published 10 apps on the App Store.
- Delivered a talk at an international tech conference.
- Launched a workshop aimed at helping others, particularly underrepresented groups, break into the tech industry.
“I’ve always been passionate about technology,” Danielle shares, but was never encouraged to pursue the field. Once in the field, she noticed there
“there weren’t enough people who looked like [her]” and developed a passion to boost representation in the iOS space.
Why iOS Development?
Before becoming an iOS developer, Danielle explored various career paths, but she always felt drawn to technology. When asked about her transition, she explained that WWDC in tech played a significant role in her decision to specialize in iOS development.
Switching into iOS development wasn’t easy, and still isn’t. Starting early in her journey she has built and leveraged her network to get through challenges and reminds herself “It has to be really bad before it’s decent”.
The Power of Representation
Danielle’s mission goes beyond coding. She’s committed to increasing diversity in technology, empowering individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in the field. Her workshops and mentorship programs are tailored to address the unique challenges faced by these groups, equipping participants with the skills, confidence, and resources needed to thrive.
Her impact is already being felt. From encouraging young Black women to enter STEM fields to fostering a sense of community among budding developers, Danielle’s contributions are a testament to the transformative power of representation.
What’s Next for Danielle?
With her impressive track record, Danielle shows no signs of slowing down. She’s currently exploring new opportunities in visionOS development, a cutting-edge technology that combines augmented reality with app creation. She’s also planning to expand her workshops to reach a global audience, ensuring that her mission to diversify the tech world transcends geographical boundaries.
Danielle want to ensure that other under-represented communities members has chance to be a part of the tech world. She is committed to being a resource for those on the fence about entering iOS development and beginners putting in the work but lacking a support system.
